Speaker: Dava Sobel

Dava Sobel, a former New York Times science reporter, is the author of Longitude (Walker 1995 and 2005, Penguin 1996), Galileo's Daughter (Walker 1999, Penguin 2000) and The Planets (Viking, 2005). In her thirty years as a science journalist she has written for many magazines, including Audubon, Discover, Life and The New Yorker, served as a contributing editor to Harvard Magazine and Omni, and co-authored five books, including Is Anyone Out There? with astronomer Frank Drake.

The event is free and open to the public. It is part of a regularly scheduled speakers forum sponsored by the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library. Due to the subject matter, The Minnesota Planetarium Society is partnering with the Friends for this event.

Next Meeting

The November meeting of the Minnesota Astronomical Society will be held at the new Minneapolis Public Library in downtown Minneapolis on Thursday November 2nd from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Board elections nominations will be announced at the meeting.

The speaker for this evening will be Dava Sobel who is the author of 'Longitude', 'Galileo's Daughter', 'The Planets' and other astronomy books.
