Silencing the Unquiet Grave

To the tune of "The Unquiet Grave"

[spoken]
Shall I sing you 'The Unquiet Grave' by and by?
A folksong so tragic it should make you cry
But it has a slight problem the version I've got;
The melody's haunting, but this is the plot!

[sung]
My man is dead they've buried him deep
He's gone to his eternal sleep.
To prove I'm just as sad as I say;
I'll weep o'er his grave for a year and a day.
I'll weep o'er his grave for a year and a day.

And so in wailing passes a year.
But hark! What is this that I hear?
He's dug him out of his grave so deep,
And says [spoken] "Shut up, lady! I'm trying to sleep!"

Give me one dead kiss, so that I'll die too.
[directly to audience]
What would you do, if this happened to you?
She claims she'll die nohow, her heart you do keep...
...So kiss her, and kill her, and go back to sleep.
So kiss her, and kill her, and go back to sleep!
