Where the Cattails Sigh

MIDI

Meant to be sung to "Mark's Song" by Cat Faber, (Music used with permission, but I've added a few grace notes here and there. Check out the original on the Echo's Children Website.) This is supposed to have a tradtional/balladic feel, so feel free to use a looser rhythm than is portrayed in the MIDI file.

I healed your battered bodies, and I healed your war-scarred minds
And for your sakes I suffered all the hurts that I could find.
I healed the wound, the bruise, the scrape, the poison and the burn
With cattails you repaid me, and to thank you I return

Chorus:
Way down in the valley, that's where we parted ways
Way down in the valley, in the river's misty haze.
The group went on to glory, to praise and honor high.
But I stayed here behind you where the withered cattails sigh.

We had traveled far and wide, fulfilled those many quests
And never once I called to you to halt and let me rest.
And when the wolves were swarming, I stood bravely in my place.
I trusted you to guard me, and looked danger in the face.

Chorus

Their forms leaped up before me, drove me to the river's bank
Their claws and teeth found purchase, and I knew who I should thank
I could not beat them back at all, for no harm may I do
And you may thank the gods that rule also applies to you!

Chorus

I laid down in the rushes, in the mud I made my bed
The smooth stones of the river's edge were pillows for my head.
And there my body lies, it rots there even to this day.
But my spirit's roaming free this night, to some how make you pay.

Way down in the valley, that's where we parted ways
Way down in the valley, in the river's misty haze.
The group went on to glory, to praise and honor high.
But I stayed here behind you where the withered cattails sigh.

I stayed here behind you where the withered cattails sigh.
