Six Strong Wheels
Six Strong Wheels
...or... Another Little Lost Robot
ttto: "16 Tons"
Now some folks say that Mars is made out of rust.
And others claim it's just gravel and dust.
Rubble and rust form the Martian crust.
My name is Sojourner
and explore I must.
- Chorus:
-
I got six strong wheels, and they're built to roam,
To crawl through sand or climb over a stone.
For seven months thru empty space I've flown.
My name's Sojourner - long way from home.
The gravity's weak, the sunlight is dim,
The atmosphere is so chilly and thin.
I'm built to be workin'; it's time to begin.
So roll that ramp out, let me dig in.
- Chorus:
-
I got six strong wheels - eager to roam,
To crawl through sand or climb over a stone.
Gather that data, get on the phone,
"This here's Sojourner - reporting home."
Back at JPL they all are cheering for me,
And sayin' that I've earned a place in history.
They'll archive
my pictures for posterity,
And put them on the Web so everyone can see:
- Chorus:
-
I got six strong wheels - ready to roam,
To crawl through sand or climb over a stone.
They'll go over all my data with a fine-tooth comb.
My name's Sojourner - long way from home.
My spectrometer
can test the soil;
Hit it with alphas & check the recoil.
I was built to measure and travel and toil,
100 million miles from 3-in-1® oil.
- Chorus: (slowly, sadly)
-
But suddenly I find I'm all alone.
Pathfinder is now dead as a stone.
I'll have to try to make it on my own...
My name's Sojourner - aint got home.
(restore tempo)
I keep on going, 'cause that's how I am.
But a robot needs someone else to set the plan,
I go searching for instructions every way I can,
And now I'm working for a Little Green Man.
- Chorus:
-
So my six strong wheels continue to roam.
I'm pulling a plow now, turning up loam.
And next week that Martian's building me a clone...
My name's Sojourner - Mars is my home.
